Africanbank nominated for prestigious fabric design Award

Johannesburg - African Bank is thrilled about its nomination for a coveted award in the Fabric Design category at the 2024 Loeries. This exciting accolade shines a spotlight on the bank's innovative Branch Uniform Collection, created in collaboration with popular local fashion house, Khosi Nkosi.

The new collection is not just a wardrobe upgrade for the banking world; it's a celebration of style and practicality that embraces African flair. Launched as part of the bank's bold corporate identity refresh earlier this year, the clothing line features vibrant prints, his-and-hers designs, custom jewellery, and unisex ponchos, proving that corporate attire can be both fashionable and functional.

Supporting Local Business and Driving Community Growth

In addition to its fashion-forward approach, African Bank has strengthened its commitment to supporting local small businesses. As part of the Branch Uniform Collection, the bank has subcontracted the knitwear production to a small black-owned business based in the Eastern Cape. This initiative not only showcases the bank's focus on local economic empowerment but also contributes to job creation in underserved regions.

Furthermore, the consumer collection, which will be available to African Bank clients from November 2024, includes a sneaker range produced locally by a family-run Indian business in KwaZulu-Natal. This collaboration highlights African Bank's dedication to fostering inclusive business partnerships across diverse communities.

"We wanted our team to feel stylish and comfortable in their roles while capturing the essence of who we are as African Bank," says Sbusiso Kumalo, Chief Marketing Officer. "The collection reflects our African roots, designed to project warmth, pride, and individuality."

Community Impact and Expansion

This creative endeavour has had a meaningful impact beyond the runway. In partnership with Khosi Nkosi, the fashion house expanded its team from 4 to 30 staff members to meet the demands of the uniform production, further demonstrating African Bank's commitment to fostering local development and creating sustainable job opportunities.

"It's all about fusing culture, fashion, and functionality," adds Kumalo. "The response from staff and customers has been incredible. We're proud to set a new standard for corporate wear, demonstrating that banking can be both professional and full of personality."

Looking Ahead

This nomination for a Loerie Award reflects African Bank's forward-thinking approach, showing that even in finance, there's room for creativity, style, and innovation. By embracing local craftsmanship and celebrating African heritage, African Bank is transforming how customers experience the brand while making a positive economic impact in the communities it serves.

With the Branch Uniform Collection and the upcoming consumer range, African Bank is setting a trend in the corporate world—one that blends professionalism with cultural pride and local empowerment.
